A new Queensland-based motocross team has been unveiled for the 2012 season, featuring Pro Lites contenders Sam Duncanson and Brock Winston.
FullForce Racing team, backed by carsRus.com.au, will contest the MX Nationals and national supercross championship, as well as the Shell Sunshine State Series.
Duncanson, a former junior Australian champion, hopes to get back to his blistering best after a couple of rough years.
With some past injuries affecting the type of ‘off bike training’ he could do, he is now back to his old training schedule, which worked well for him when training with friend Andrew McFarlane, who sadly passed away in 2010.
“Andrew taught me the importance of ‘off bike training’ and how it relates to on bike fitness and skills,” Duncanson said.
“Back when I was at my best in ’08 and ’09, I was cycling and swimming with him and it worked really good, so I’ve gone back to my old program.
“Obviously his passing hit me hard. My first race in senior I ran second to him in the state titles, so hopefully I can get back to somewhere where I was.”
Duncanson admits it was hard financially last year, travelling off his own back to the MX Nationals but this year with a team behind him, he hope’s to put that in the past and concentrate on his riding.
“Financially it helps a lot having a big transporter to travel in, getting my bikes there and transported to the races,” he added.
“I won’t have to worry about the little things that you need to when you’re a privateer, running out of your own van. Its great to be back on a Yamaha YZ250F again with my other personal sponsor’s Clothing Unlimited, OGIO, Ethika and Cascol Constructions.”
Joining him in the Lites, but on a KTM 250 SX-F, is Brock Winston, who brings with him the 2008, 2009 and 2010 Shell Sunshine State Series Championships.
Having battled injuries himself, Winston hopes to use the time off the bike as motivation to get back on and do well.
“I had carpel tunnel release surgery after the last round of the MX Nationals and started riding again after that surgery and had a really bad pain in my wrist,” he said.
“So I went back to the doctors and they said it was because a bone needed to be straightened from a broken bone a few years back, so I decided to have it broken and fixed.”
Team owner Phil Astley is excited to be working with the two, talented young riders.
“The launch of the FullForce MX racing team is really quite exciting and to be putting the final points in to place and seeing the team become a reality, is something we have been working towards now for close to 12 months,” Astley said.
“Having Queensland riders Brock Winston and Sam Duncanson onboard representing the Sunshine Coast-based FullForce MX team in 2012 is really an added bonus and we are very pleased and excited to have these guys working with us.”
Joining the team with support this year is; carsRus.com.au, Fox Australia, Motorex Oils, Oakley Goggles, MX Race Prep Suspension, Kustom MX Graphics, Tsubaki Racing Chains and Supersprox Sprockets.
