Additional details emerge about expanding 2012 MX Nationals series

The MX Nationals series will be expanding for the 2012 season.

Details regarding the 2012 MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, are beginning to emerge as the current national racing season’s conclusion approaches.

While series organiser Williams Event Management confirmed a number of months ago that the series will return to Western Australia, it’s now been confirmed that the series could span 10-12 rounds next year.

According to WEM boss Kevin Williams over a Carlton Dry following last weekend’s Sydney round of Super X, the series will be expanded and new categories are on the horizon.

Williams revealed that although a WA return is on the cards, only the Pro Open and Pro Lites classes will attend, largely due to the number of privateer competitors and families contested the Under 19s.

A Rookies Development class could be introduced alongside a Two-Stroke Cup at up to four rounds, while a Pro Quad series is under discussion after they debuted at this year’s MX season finale in Coolum.

The big news however is that WEM is currently negotiating an international television package that would see the MX Nationals brand boosted onto a global scale, much like the AMA Pro Motocross TV schedule.

Williams also confirmed rumours that WEM is looking to introduce a new and improved timing system that will likely set a new benchmark for the sport in Australia.

Stay tuned for more information to come as the new develops in the coming months.
