CDR Rockstar Energy Drink Yamaha’s Jay Marmont says he’s remaining focused on the upcoming Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, despite speculation that he’ll switch teams for 2012.

Marmont is yet to renew his deal with Yamaha for a fifth consecutive season, with speculation mounting that he’s being courted by rival teams to compete for them in Australia next year.

Right now though, the 28-year-old’s priority is the Super X season, which he finished runner-up in last season. After the Super X season is complete, it’s expected that we can then expect to know more about his future.

“For me right now there’s four months to go this year and Super X is the biggest priority for me,” Marmont explained. “I want to put every bit of effort in that I can, build the best tracks and get my Yamaha set so I can take on the Super X series.

“The team has already been up here once for testing and they’ll be back here in two weeks to do some more. We’ll put every bit of effort in, trying stuff, and hopefully we come out on top.”

Marmont has had additional weeks to prepare for Super X this season, only selected as a reserve for Team Australia in the Motocross of Nations that was staged in France last weekend. This has him in a much better position than he was 12 months ago leading up to supercross.

“My preparation has been great and I’m really feeling good at supercross. I felt like I’ve always had clutch problems affecting me, having to adjust it on the first lap, but now we have the hydraulic clutches I can focus on my riding.

“I feel good around the track with good corner speed and keeping low on the jumps, plus my starts have been good. I really don’t feel like I have too many weaknesses. I’m just up for the challenge of racing these guys, so I want to carry the momentum I had at the end of motocross.”

Speculation regarding Marmont’s future started after he and team manager Craig Dack appeared on RPM earlier this month (click here for details).
