South Australian Brett Metcalfe has been confirmed to be remaining with American Suzuki for 2012, continuing into the second of a two-year deal.

With Ryan Dungey leaving (see separate story), Metcalfe is the first of Suzuki’s riders confirmed for next season, however the team structure isn’t yet finalised.

Current plans for the 2012 campaign include returning Suzuki rider, Metcalfe. The 27-year-old Australian joined Suzuki at the beginning of the 2011 season with solid credentials and has demonstrated strength, determination and the ability to win aboard the Suzuki RM-Z.

Although injuries shortened his 2011 supercross season, Metcalfe has shown his ability during the current motocross season, scoring an overall win as well as two podiums and three top five finishes.

Metcalfe finished the season a solid fourth in points in the 2011 AMA Pro Motocross series.

“We’re extremely happy to have Brett Metcalfe as part of our team for 2012,” said team manager, Mike Webb. “Metty has shown he has the stuff to win and is a great ambassador for the sport and a quality representative for American Suzuki.

Suzuki hasn’t revealed who Metcalfe’s teammate would be for next season at this point, however neither Rockstar or Makita were mentioned in the release as sponsors of the factory effort.
