Herlings took the MX2 win at Lommel, his KTM team mates following.

Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing riders Antonio Cairoli and Jeffrey Herlings have dominated proceedings on the weekend after the twelfth Grand Prix of the season took place at Lommel, Belgium.

Both classes saw great racing, but it was Cairoli and Herlings who were able to master the demanding Lommel sand and take the win in the MX1 and MX2 classes respectively.

Cairoli, who spends a great deal of time in Belgium during the off season, didn’t have it all his own way. Despite winning both races, race one saw him battle it out with Belgian native and closest championship rival, Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MX1’s Clement Desalle, before eventually grabbing the win and going on to replicate the performance in race two.

Third overall on the day was Cairloli’s team mate Max Nagl, who went 5-2 on the day.

Cairoli now holds a 52 point lead over Desalle in the MX1 championship standings.

The MX2 class saw Herlings earn his win, kept honest in both races by team mate and series leader, Ken Roczen. Roczen battle hard with Herling in both motos, eventually succumbing to a fall in race one, while race two saw the two duke it out before Herlings was able to move around his team mate and open a gap for a satisfying win.

Third overall in the MX2 class was another Red Bull Teka KTM rider. Jeremy van Horebeek grabbed his first podium of the season after finishing third in both races.

The home rider had been injured most of the season, and after training hard with Stefan Everts, the podium proved a great reward for his hard work, and rounded out a great day for the Red Bull Teka KTM team.

The victory sees Herlings draw closer to Roczen in the MX2 series standing, now trailing his German team mate by 31 points.

The Motocross World Championship now heads to Czech Republic this weekend, August 7, for round 12 of the 15 round series.
