Marmont wins 2011 MX Nationals Championship, Coppins injured!

CDR Rockstar Energy Drink Yamaha’s Jay Marmont has been crowned champion for a record fourth time in the Pro Open category of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals.

Marmont won the title after winning moto three at Coolum’s season finale, however it was a dislocated shoulder for former world championship number two and Yamaha teammate Josh Coppins in moto two that told the story.

The New Zealander was involved in a first turn clash with Monster Kawasaki’s Dean Ferris, both assisted off the track by medical and forced out of the final two motos.

Coppins attempted to race after his shoulder was put back in place by Suzuki RACESAFE, however after taking to the start gates for the final moto he confirmed that the pain was too much to tackle and walked off to hand Marmont the title unchallenged.

“I saw a few fans cheering me extra hard after the moto and I had no idea why, but then when I cam in here I was told I won the title,” the 28-year-old Marmont said.

“You’ve gotta be in it to win it and the fourth time feels unreal. I feel for Josh, he’s been a top competitor all year and I really wasn’t sure if we could pull it off today.”

Moto four is currently taking place here in Coolum. Stay tuned for full results and a report to come.

Ferris is also sitting out the final moto, still with RACESAFE and is believed to have re-injured his chest.
