MX Nationals champion Jay Marmont has been confirmed for the King of the Cross in WA next month.

The 2011 BGS Contracting King of the Cross with feature a national flavour when it takes place on 6-7 August, featuring triple MX Nationals champion Jay Marmont in one of Western Australia’s great races.

Marmont won last year’s event at the Southern Cross MX track, the event expecting to attract around 450 to 500 riders for the weekend’s proceedings including the KTM Kid of the Cross.

This year’s King of the Cross winner will take home $10,000, with previous winners including Jeff Leisk, Stephen Gall, Glen Bell, Eddie Warren, Graeme Smythe, Jumpin’ Jimmy Ellis, Daniel McCoy, Jarrod Hockley and Dean Porter since its inception in 1976.

Marmont won the Manjimup 15,000 in WA earlier this year, crediting that performance as the turning point in his form.

“I really enjoy racing at Cosy Creek,” Marmont said after the day’s racing at Manjimup. “This track is easily one of the best, if not the best in Australia, and the Club and Dirt High Promotions do a great job and the atmosphere is always good.

“Winning this event has got my season back on track, and hopefully it will give me some momentum in the MX Nationals. I will be returning to WA in early August to defend my King of the Cross title.”

Other contenders confirmed for the round are Craig Anderson, Michael Addison and Paul Grant, while Dan Reardon is a potential contender, but not yet confirmed.
