Off-road ace Ben Grabham has undergone surgery following his spectacular victory in last week’s Finke Desert Race despite sustaining an injury on the opening day of the race.

The Motorex KTM Off Road team rider won his fourth Finke, but celebrations were dampened when it was revealed his suffered a broken scaphoid, injured the tendon of his thumb and even dislocated his wrist in the fall.

“I had surgery last week and now it’s just a matter of waiting for my injuries to heal,” Grabham told MotoOnline.com.au this afternoon. “I’m going to miss Hattah and the A4DE, but hopefully I should be right for everything else.

“Doctors have told me it will take around six weeks to get better, but they couldn’t promise me when the scaphoid would be good – that’s the biggest question mark and most concern at the moment.”

Grabham will be forced out of the Hattah Desert Race next weekend and will also miss next month’s Australian Four Day Enduro in Mackay, however he’s positive that he’ll be fit for rounds five and six of the Australian Off Road Championship at the end of August in South Australia.

After the opening four rounds of the AORC, Grabham is currently tied for the lead in the E1 class with Stefan Merriman.
