German sensation Ken Roczen says his double moto victory at the Spanish round of the Motocross World Championship at La Baneza on Sunday is exactly what he needed in a bid to race for his first world title.

Roczen crashed a week prior in Portugal and injured his back, but he was able to bounce back to form in Spain to claim 50 points and regain the red plate in the MX2 class as title leader.

“I came here in a lot of pain and it didn’t work out so well yesterday because I was still in a lot of pain but now we had some good days,” the 17-year-old said. “I was really calm and riding smooth and this is what I needed.

“I finally won two motos and I made two mistakes. Now I will go back home to relax a bit because I want to come back strong in Sweden.”

Red Bull Teka KTM MX1 team manager Claudio de Carli gave credit to Roczen for being able to take both wins despite his niggling injuries.

“This was a very good weekend after last weekend when we all had a lot of worries about Ken Roczen after his bad crash in Agueda,” de Carli.

Roczen’s lead now sits at six ahead of KTM teammate Jeffrey Herlings, who was fourth on Sunday.
