Kiwi Josh Coppins is satisfied that his third place overall in the Pro Open class of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals round at Coonabarabran will keep him in title contention as the series enters its final stages.

The former World Motocross number two scored a solid third overall for CDR Rockstar Energy Yamaha in the round won by teammate Jay Marmont, his 3-5-1-4 results displaying a string of consistency at Goanna Tracks.

His fifth position in moto two was a remarkable one, battling back from a first lap crash where he was left in last position, slicing his way through the pack in seven laps.

“Overall, I’m happy with the way the day went,” Coppins reflected. “I felt the bike worked well and my riding was at a good level.

“The second race fifth obviously hurts a little when the top guys in this class are pretty consistent, but at least I was able to salvage some reasonable points and keep myself in contention.”

Coppins remains in third for the championship, only 32 points away from the red plate.
