A rejuvenated Billy Mackenzie will front the start gates at Toowoomba’s fifth round of the MX Nationals later this month following his dominant win for Monster Kawasaki in South Australia on Sunday.

Despite resting to heal a fractured shoulder and ribs in the lead-up to round four of season 2011, Mackenzie was the man to beat at Murray Bridge, enjoying good starts and pace-setting speed throughout race day.

With 1-1-3-1 results the scorecard for the round, Mackenzie was satisfied to bounce back, admitting the most recent rounds had been a struggle with injury. Now, he says he’s beginning to have fun again as his fitness returns.

“It’s just great to win again. The bike worked so well, it was awesome!” the Scotsman beamed. “I felt comfortable all day and I felt fit.

“I was a little depressed after the last couple of rounds but clawing back so many points today has really given me new motivation.

“I’m having fun again and can’t wait for Toowoomba!”

Mackenzie now sits just 17 points off new series leader Dean Ferris, the Monster Energy Kawasaki teammates entering the team’s home round at the end of the month.
