Will Australia's Chad Reed be on the start gates for the 2011 AMA Pro Motocross Championship?

Australia’s Chad Reed is yet to confirm that he’ll be on the starting gates for the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, with U.S. journalists this week linking him to a potential guest ride with American Honda if funding can’t be sourced for TwoTwo Motorsports.

With both Trey Canard and Josh Grant set to be ruled out of at least the opening rounds, speculation has been mounting in recent weeks who could replace them as the series commences next month at Hangtown.

Reed has been in incredible form this season since forming his very own TwoTwo Motorsports operation for AMA Supercross using Honda’s CRF450R, however the team hasn’t yet secured the funding for the outdoors according to reports in the U.S.

The 29-year-old has been rumoured to be in negotiations with Honda about a switch to the factory squad for the AMA Motocross season, as has veteran GEICO Powersports Honda star Kevin Windham.

However one complication that could stand in the way of Reed joining the official team is the fact that Bel-Ray is a primary sponsor of the TwoTwo Motorsports team, with Pro Honda Oils the supplier for the factory team.

Reed confirmed on Twitter earlier this week that he isn’t yet locked in for the outdoors – on his team or the factory team – but did admit that he does want to contest the series that he won for the first time in 2009.
