Mid-week testing has title leader Reed ready for Dallas

Australia's Chad Reed leads the AMA Supercross series into Dallas this weekend.

Australia's Chad Reed leads the AMA Supercross series into Dallas this weekend.

Four-time Dallas winner Chad Reed heads to this weekend’s next instalment of Monster Energy AMA Supercross at Cowboys Stadium brimming with confidence.

The TwoTwo Motorsports rider has a long and successful history of racing in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, winning here en route to both of his AMA titles in 2004 and 2008.

On the back of his eighth podium of the closely-contested 2011 season, Reed moved into the 450 class points lead for the first time in almost two years.

Despite his exemplary run of late, there are areas of his race which Reed has been brutally honest in identifying.

“It’s good to be in the position I am but the last two weeks have been frustrating,” said Reed. “I’ve been so close to a win but have made mistakes that have prevented me from being there to take it.

“I’m racing young, fit guys who can turn it on for 20 laps. I’m confident in my own fitness but I have been slowed by late race mistakes which normally don’t affect me.

“This makes it even more crucial to go out and test and work on things between rounds – we made some good ground at a day spent at the California test track so I am really looking to go out and challenge for the win this weekend.

“We’re ticking the boxes and we’re right there in contention for this title.”

The Australian rider holds a three-point lead over Ryan Villopoto heading to Texas this weekend.

If he places third or better he will increase his incredible podium place percentage – Reed has finished 81.6 percent of the AMA Pro races he has contested on the podium.

Including this weekend’s 20-lap Main Event, there are just five rounds remaining for Reed to maintain his points lead.
