Mackie determined for podium result as Appin approaches

Cody Mackie made a strong start to 2011 at Broadford, but now he wants a podium finish.

Cody Mackie made a strong start to 2011 at Broadford, but now he wants a podium finish.

Team 07 Axis Motorsports Honda’s Cody Mackie says he’ll be disappointed with any result other than a podium at this weekend’s second round of the Pro Lites Australian Motocross Championship.

Mackie, who last week sealed third in the New Zealand national title, finished fourth on debut with the sattelite Honda team at Broadford’s MX Nationals opener earlier this month, but he’s squarely focused on a podium result this Sunday at Appin.

“I’m sitting fourth in the championship and anything other than improvement on this position for me will be a disappointment,” Mackie commented. “I know the boys at Axis have been working tirelessly on the bike and I believe it to be the best bike I’ve ridden.”

Pro Lites teammate Kieran Hall is also determined to improve upon his current position in the standings after taking 12th at Broadford.

“I have points on the board and am sitting in 12th, but I am not satisfied with this,” he admitted. “I’ve been testing with the Axis crew every weekend since Broadford.

“My speed and lap times reflect a result that will be far better than round one, so look for me at the pointy end of the race this weekend.”

Young gun Dylan Peterson will be looking for his first win in the Under 19s category on Sunday. After qualifying fastest, Peterson finished ninth at the opener and he’s eager to transfer his pace come race time this weekend.

After racing in Queensland last weekend, Peterson is confident he can get the job done at Appin this weekend.

“I caught and passed [Luke] Arbon twice on the weekend, so there should be no reason him or anyone else should be in front of me on Sunday,” he said.
