Injured collarbone ends Marshall's KTM debut early at Broadford

Queenslander Robbie Marshall is still recovering from a broken collarbone, ending his day early at Broadford.

Advanti Motorex Coastal KTM’s Robbie Marshall was forced out of the opening round of the 2011 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals on Sunday, pain from a freshly broken collarbone proving too much in the treacherous conditions.

Marshall qualified inside the top 15 on debut aboard the KTM 350 SX-F, but after a crash in race two he decided to call it a day after sustaining a broken collarbone only three weeks prior to the first round.

“ Today just wasn’t my day. I was feeling really good in the lead up of the MX Nationals but crashed while training at home and I broke my collarbone,” the Queenslander commented.

“I gave it a few weeks off the bike and tried to ride at round one but due to my crash in the second moto it was too painful and weak to continue on. The team has done an unreal job with my bike and I can’t wait to give them some great results.

“I’ll give my collarbone a few more weeks rest then hopefully come out swinging at the second round in Appin.”

Marshall sits in 40th position overall after the first round.

Teammmate, former Junior World Champion Jay Wilson, had a weekend he would rather forget in the Under 19s.

After qualifying in fifth position, Wilson looked to be in for a great day but due to a clash with a lapped rider in the second moto and a crash in moto three, he finished in 11th position overall with the results of 5-23-12-5.

“I was really nervous about coming into the first round being my pro level debut and I rode really tight and just didn’t feel myself all day,” Wilson said.

“I got a great start in the final moto and was running as high as second at one stage, but due to the track being so rough it was hard to find good lines and I dropped back to fifth by the final lap.

“I’m happy to get the first round out of the way and now to concentrate on the rest of the series. I’d like to thank Bondy and the team for all their help and support and I hope to get them on top at the next round.”

The Appin round will take place on 3 April in New South Wales.
