Podium a priority for Reed heading into Indianapolis

Aussie Chad Reed is looking for consistency as AMA Supercross heads to Indy.

Aussie Chad Reed is looking for consistency as AMA Supercross heads to Indy.

A fifth consecutive podium finish is top priority for Monster Energy AMA Supercross front-runner Chad Reed at this weekend’s Indianapolis round of the championship.

The TwoTwo Motorsports rider reduced the gap to second place in the series last weekend and is now just a point off rival James Stewart.

Reed’s consistency has been telling this season. The two-time champion has taken a level-headed approach to each Main Event and is one of only a few riders to have factored in the top ten on every occasion.

Identifying last week’s start as a stumbling block, Reed has worked hard this week to ensure he is one of the first riders to fire from the gates when the 20-lapper at Lucas Oil Stadium gets underway.

“This is a fast and experienced field so getting away in front is really important,” said Reed. “I wasn’t at the top of my game at Daytona and I’ve worked this week on a few of the issues which held me back.

“It’s been productive and I feel as though I am better prepared, both in terms of starting and maintaining good race pace. We’re in this championship for real now, few would have thought it at the start of the year given that we were such a new team.

“I’ll keep pushing and keep putting the pressure on, it would be great if we could work our way into second after this weekend.”

As well as sitting third on the championship ladder, Reed also sits third in laps led this season at 33.

The Australian is just one win away from a career total of 40 AMA victories, a mark he hopes to move past in the coming weeks.
