Oz SX: Brayton and Windham win Open heats in Tasmania

The heats have are underway at Launceston’s third round of the Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, in Tasmania.

Winning heat one of the Open class was JGR Yamaha’s Justin Brayton, taking it out comfortably ahead of Jake Moss (Rockstar Motul Suzuki) and Dan Reardon (Cougar Honda Thor Racing), who was aggressive in the early laps but again struggled with the rhythm section down the back straight again.

Heat two of the Opens saw Kevin Windham (Cougar Bourbon Honda Racing) win after a tight battle with Josh Hansen (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki), the pair pulling a sizeable gap on Mike Alessi (JDR Motorex KTM) for an American 1-2-3. Tye Simmonds (JDR Motorex KTM) was the top Aussie in fourth.

Hansen pulled out a tricky triple jump following the finish line jump, however he couldn’t make his way past his countryman despite many attempts – starts will be vital come finals time.

The first Lites main event saw American PJ Larsen (JDR Motorex KTM) win comfortably over teammate Ryan Marmont and Cody Mackie (Kawasaki Racing Team).

Heat two of the Lites saw the rain return, with defending champion Matt Moss (Rockstar Motul Suzuki) leading in the early stages until a fall handed the lead to Josh Cachia (Coastal KTM).

Bopping then took the lead from Cachia, the pair coming together as Bopping went by. Bopping eventually won from Cachia and Ford Dale (Serco Yamaha). Moss finished fifth.

Michael Addison (Team 07 AXIS Motorsport) went down out of the first turn on lap one and failed to finish the race.
