Oz MX: Honda's Waters relentless in his injury comeback

Todd Waters will be back to full fitness this weekend at Albury.

Todd Waters will be back to full fitness this weekend at Albury.

Cougar Bourbon Honda Thor Racing young gun Todd Waters won’t be kept down in his pursuit of success in the 2010 Rockstar Energy MX Nationals, the Queenslander hoping to fight back from injury at Albury Wodonga this weekend.

Driven by dedication and discipline, Waters has gone to incredible lengths to overcome what would normally be a season-ending injury. A broken collarbone at the Toowoomba event in May saw the 19-year-old slip from the top of the Pro Open standings.

He underwent an operation to have a metal plate inserted, followed by an intense physiotherapy program, and pushed his body to the limit to ensure he would be present at the start gate for the next round.

With no national meeting scheduled until this weekend, Waters went in search of club races to ensure he is fully-fit for this Sunday.

“I wasn’t meant to race at Raymond Terrace, so I just did what I could to make it through,” explained Waters. “My collarbone has healed very well and I am taking all the time I can to get out and ride. I’ve driven down to Bourke with Ford Dale to train with Tye Simmonds and make sure my pace is still there.

“My speed is good against Tye so I am happy with my preparations ahead of Albury. I won there last year and I like the track, it gets quite rutted which creates a lot of line options. It’s got some fun jumps and a tricky start on concrete which you need to get right or you’ll get left behind.

“Tye, Ford and myself raced at Moree on the weekend – it gave me more good track time and gave me the opportunity to learn more about the track before we race there in late July.”

Waters will head to the Albury Wodonga event placed seventh in the Pro Open standings, a single point behind sixth placed rider Cody Cooper.
