Dual podiums for Penrite Honda Racing in Sydney Supercross thriller

Penrite Honda Racing press release:

Penrite Honda Racing’s Jimmy Decotis has extended his lead in the Australian Supercross SX2 Championship, claiming his fourth round win from five events at the AUS-X Open in Sydney last night.

Teammate Gavin Faith claimed the team’s second podium of the night, with a sensational second place finish behind global Supercross star Chad Reed in the premier SX1 final. Decotis, who qualified first and won his heat race, now holds a commanding lead in the SX2 Championship ahead of next weekend’s season finale at Melbourne’s Knights Stadium.

“This is one of the most exciting events I have been a part of,” said Decotis. “Sydney really turned it on and the crowd was incredible.

“I got a bad start in the final but there was a lot of grip and the Pirelli tyres hooked up great. I felt like I rode strong all race and once I got in front, I kept at it, rode clean and smart and brought it home.

“Everyone at Penrite Honda Racing have been working so hard to make this possible and I just hope I can wrap up the title for them at the final round in Melbourne next weekend,” Decotis continued.

Gavin Faith qualified third and finished second in his heat race to advance directly into the 20-lap SX1 final. Bad luck has thwarted the American in previous events but he turned his debut SX1 season around with a solid second place finish behind Reed.

“I am stoked, to finally get a great start and put together 20 solid laps feels really good,” said Faith.

“It has been a while coming and I’m just rapt for the Penrite Honda Racing team, who have stuck by me and kept working so hard to achieve the result we all knew was possible.”

“In the final I made a mistake on the second lap and came up real short in the rhythm section and Chad pulled a small gap,” Faith continued. “Once I recouped I was able to maintain a strong pace.

“I am looking forward to this afternoon’s event, this is perfect preparation for next years Arena X series in America.”

Team Principal Yarrive Konsky praised his team for their relentless pursuit of success.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better finish tonight,” Konsky said. “Winning the SX2 final and finishing second in the SX1 class in front of a sold out crowd was overwhelming.

The entire team has worked so hard and they are relentless in their pursuit to give back to our partners.

“Personally for my staff and sponsors to be a part of this was reward enough. To see their smiles was priceless. I also want congratulate the team at AME for a sensational event,” he added.

The Penrite Honda Racing team will contest this afternoon’s non-championship AUS-X Open event at Sydney’s Allphones Arena before returning to Melbourne to prepare for the final round of the 2015 Australian Supercross Championship at Melbourne’s Knight’s Stadium on Saturday 5 December.
