NPS Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Adam Monea battled through the pain of a double ankle injury sustained in Friday’s press day activities at last weekend’s Phillip Island rounds of the Penrite Australian Supercross Championship.

Coming off a pair of podiums at Bathurst the week prior, Monea was able to salvage fourth and fifth place finishes at Phillip Island despite his inclusion in the first turn pile-up that took teammate Jake Moss out of Sunday’s main event.

With the extent of Monea’s ankle injuries unconfirmed, he maintains equal second in the standings now tied with Suzuki’s Lawson Bopping for position entering Brisbane’s final round in November.

“It’s a real bummer getting these little injuries,” Monea explained. “I still feel like I could have been on the podium on Sunday, but I was brought down in the first turn crash that left a lot of the field on the ground. It was hard to come back from there. I’m unsatisfied with the results because I feel like I’m a genuine contender for race wins. I need to heal up as best I can and I’ll be in Brisbane to try and finish as best I can.”

Meanwhile Moss’ disastrous season went from bad to worse, crashing off the start in both finals – the second incident ruling him out after aggravating an existing shoulder injury from the pre-season. After finishing runner-up last season, Moss has now been shuffled down to 11th in the championship standings.
