Two-time Australian motocross champion and current MX1 red-plate holder Dean Ferris will draw upon his experience racing in the MXGP World Championship this weekend at Wonthaggi’s double-header stop of the Pirelli MX Nationals.

Each world championship round is hosted over two days with a qualification race on Saturday followed by two motos on Sunday, which serves as a similar format to this weekend’s third and fourth rounds in Victoria, where two complete rounds of racing are set to take place on consecutive days.

The CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team rider is all-too familiar with competing on back-to-back days and managing his body, which is experience he’s hoping will play into his favour as the double-header format is essentially a new addition to the domestic championship.

“I definitely have some experience from racing in the grand prix,” Ferris told MotoOnline.com.au. “I just have to make sure we cross our Ts and dot our Is. It’s pretty new to the MX Nationals, I believe we did one at the end of 2010 for the last round in Coolum – it was a different format across both days – but I hope my GP experience pays off.

“You need to stay on top of your nutrition and stuff like that, there are a few little knick-knacks, but nothing too crazy. We’ll definitely take it one day at time and stick to the game plan as always.”

Ferris has been unstoppable in 2018, claiming four moto victories from as many races. He currently holds a 13-point advantage over rival Kirk Gibbs (KTM Motocross Racing Team).
