Team Honda HRC’s newest addition, Ken Roczen, made an impressive debut at the 2016 Monster Energy Cup (MEC) winning two out of three main events inside Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium.

After kicking off his 2016 MEC attack with a convincing win in the opening main event and a shot at the ‘Monster Million’, Roczen again found his way into the lead during race two before an error forced the German out of the race.

“We ended up having a good day overall,” said Roczen. “I grabbed the holeshot and pretty much checked out, which was absolutely amazing. We went into the second race and didn’t get a great jump out of the gate but snuck around the inside and I was able to get into the lead pretty quick.

“I was riding good but made a big error and got ejected from the bike. I’m glad that everything is okay and I have no injuries. I DNF that one but wanted to get out there to win the last race but do it safely.”

Relatively unscathed following his race two crash, Roczen returned to the tricky circuit and stamped his authority with a win in the final main event.

“I made the pass on [Mike] Alessi a few laps in and just tried not to crash; the track was really sketchy and the wind made for bad conditions,” he added. “Overall it was a great debut with the new team and the new bike, so we’re ready to do work now and come out swinging at Anaheim.”

Roczen will miss next weekend’s Red Bull Straight Rhythm event due to schedule clashes with team commitments and will now focus on preparing for Anaheim’s 2017 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship season opener on 7 January.
