P5 in opening moto highlights improvement in Queensland.
Raceline Husqvarna Tdub Racing Team’s Todd Waters admitted ‘it was nice to be up front’ following Warwick’s fifth round of ProMX on Sunday, where the former MX1 champion took a well-earned P5 result in moto one, before leading the field in the second outing.
Waters posted a solid seventh overall at the loamy Queensland venue, holding third in race one before tightness began to set in, relegating the 34-year-old to a season-high fifth place finish by moto’s end.
Launching to the second moto holeshot, clean air at the front of the field was a welcome change for Waters, however, running the pace of the leading group added an extra layer of intensity, with the veteran racer acknowledging that added fitness is needed to fight at the front.
“Today was fun,” Waters told MotoOnline. “The first moto, I got myself into third, and just started ticking off the laps, but yeah, the fitness just isn’t there – I faded, and the boys went back past me. It was nice to be up front, though, and I had a bit of heart in me… I think that’s what wore me out, I was getting a bit excited.
“I’ve got some homework to do [on the fitness side], I’m normally the fitter guy out there, but it’s good now because I’m now keen to train. I was getting a bit stale just getting my arse kicked, but to see that light at the end of the tunnel is good, especially after running at the front in both motos here.”
With three rounds remaining in the 2025 ProMX season, Waters sits in eighth place in the standings, just six markers from long-time rival Kirk Gibbs (KTM Racing Team) in seventh.
