Following a single season racing the MX2 category in the Penrite ProMX Championship and the SX1 category in the Fox Australian Supercross Championship (AUSX), Jack Mather will opt out of ProMX 2025 in favour of focusing on AUSX this year.

Mather finished 10th in the MX2 category outdoors last season, before making the surprise step up to the SX1 class for AUSX, where he showed promise at only 19-years-old, finishing P7 in the final standings.

Raceline Husqvarna TDub Racing Team revealed in January that Regan Duffy would join its three-rider outfit alongside Todd Waters and Rhys Budd, effectively replacing Mather in the line-up. Although, there was speculation surrounding Mather joining Beta, nothing has eventuated and the Queenslander has opted to ‘sit out motocross and have a proper go at supercross.’

“Basically, for the moment my mentality is just to work my butt off and try to make some money, then get back behind the gates for supercross,” Mather told MotoOnline. “I want to get a bit of money behind me and be able to race a full season of supercross on a good bike and really try and make something of it, that’s the plan right now.

“I feel like last year was pretty solid for me. There were some decent results there, and there were also a few things that didn’t go to plan, but overall it was a solid year. I learnt heaps and that was pretty much the goal – I wanted to learn as much as I could in my rookie year in MX2 and try to bring that into this year.

“Sitting out ProMX wasn’t an easy decision to make, I had a few offers there to go racing, but financially we decided that sitting out motocross and having a proper go at supercross was the best way to do it. You know, it’s not really the way I wanted it to be, but my family and I had a chat and we felt like just sticking to supercross only this year was the best decision moving forward.

“I’m still young, like I’m still only 19 years old. I feel like I’m still one of the up-and-coming guys, so I just want to make an impact, and if I can’t race every motocross round, I want to be able to race every supercross. As I said, it wasn’t an easy decision to make, for sure, but that’s what we felt was the best decision.

“It’s still early days in the planning process, for sure. I’ve been in talks with some people about putting together a program [for AUSX 2025], so I have a bit of an idea of what bike I’ll ride at this stage, but nothing is final.”

As a former SX3 champion in AUSX, Mather was impressive in his single season contesting the SX1 premier class last year and has shown the capability to race supercross at a high level.
