Winning a national MX1 championship remains the elusive crown that Yarrive Konsky’s highly-decorated Honda Racing team is yet to clinch, with Jed Beaton challenging for the 2023 title entering this month’s final two rounds of Penrite ProMX.

Despite achieving success across a range of Australian championship classes and in celebrating its 20-year anniversary of domestic competition this season, a premier class title outdoors has eluded the Victorian organisation.

Honda Racing has captured multiple MX2 titles, most recently with Kyle Webster and Wilson Todd in the past two seasons, in addition to five-straight SX1 championships with Justin Brayton between 2016-2019/2022 and the last two SX2 series contested (2019 with Chris Blose and 2022 courtesy of Max Anstie). The team was also crowned Australian Superbike champions with Bryan Staring in 2010.

Beaton and Webster feature in the team’s current 450 class line-up as it strives to bring home the title in its 20th season, with Beaton currently second and seven points from red plate-holder Dean Ferris entering Queensland Moto Park’s penultimate round this weekend.

“I don’t know if the 20th year would make it any more special, but it is a championship that has eluded us,” Konksy told MotoOnline. “Not from a lack of trying… I would hate to try and recall how many times we have led it, how many times we have felt like we are in a really good position.

“Craig Anderson in our very first year had the red plate for many rounds and then did his hamstring with, I think, two rounds to go, and he got a flat tyre, but the hamstring is what really killed that season for us – we were dominating.

“Todd Waters has led the championship for us, Ben Townley has led the championship for us, Dean Ferris has led the championship for us, and there are many other riders, including even Brad Anderson when he finished second. It would be super-special to win it. Every championship we have won is special, but for whatever reason, this one has escaped us so far.”

The success of Konsky’s Honda Racing effort isn’t limited to Australia, with Ken Roczen winning the World Supercross Championship (WSX) last season, plus Anstie claiming a Monster Energy Supercross 250SX East/West Showdown victory in East Rutherford earlier this year and a previous 450SX podium in the US earned with Brayton.
