A 2005-inspired look has been unveiled by Serco Yamaha ahead of the retro round of the 2023 Penrite ProMX Championship at Toowoomba this weekend, paying homage to the design featured on former national champion Cameron Taylor’s race bike that year.

Both YZ250Fs of Rhys Budd and Jesse Dobson will feature the throwback look, representing what was a successful 2005 season for Serco Yamaha winning the MX2 national championship with Taylor.

“It was cool to hear Gavin and the team were going to do a replica of my bike from 2005 and I was impressed when I first saw the photos,” Taylor explained. “Jonni in the graphics department did an awesome job to get the bike looking so close to my bike of that time despite how much different the 2023 bike looks from my 2005 bike. A lot has changed over the years, so they have nailed it to get the old look on the new bike.

“It’s hard to believe it was 17 years ago that I won the championship for Serco and it’s cool that they are running it at the Toowoomba round as I recall it being a good round for myself and my teammate, Robbie Marshall. I think we were both on the podium that day. Hopefully, Rhys and Jesse can match our results of 2005 and do the look of the bikes justice [laughs].”

The retro round last year took place at Coffs Harbour and was a popular theme for many, returning this year for round six of the Penrite Pro MX Championship. Serco Yamaha pairing Budd and Dobson entered the motos this weekend fourth and fifth in the MX2 standings respectively.
