Kawasaki Racing Team’s Mitch Evans took another step forward during the week of the MXGP of Latvia, reflected in a season-best result of P11 in moto two at Kegums as he continues to make up for missed bike time at the start of the year.

The MXGP of Portugal at the start of May marked Evans’ first complete weekend with the Kawasaki Racing Team in the world championship, sidelined throughout the opening rounds with a thumb injury sustained prior to the season opener.

The Australian banked valuable race miles in the following events in Spain and France, recently completing the eighth round of the 2023 11th overall following a 17-11 scorecard.

“This track has never been my favourite but we made another step forward during the week and that showed in the results,” Evans explained. “Now I just need to get back into race fitness and make up for the bike time I missed at the start of the year. Now I’m looking forward to Germany, I really like that track and it’s more my style.”

Evans has faced multiple setbacks and injuries throughout his MXGP career, but has top-three finishes in the world championship to his credit and was part of Team Australia’s third-placed squad at the Motocross of Nations (MXoN) last year.

The next round of the 2023 MXGP World Championship takes place at Teutschenthal, Germany on 11 June.
