Surgery is on the cards for Kyle Webster following his moto three absence in Maitland, the Boost Mobile Honda Racing rider suffering a sizeable gouge to his arm after being hit by a rock during the second MX1 race of the weekend.

Webster finished the opening moto on Saturday in P5 and set the benchmark in the Penrite ProMX qualifying shootout on Sunday morning.

Disaster struck in moto two, however, when he was hit by a sizeable rock that resulted in a large, open wound to his arm. Webster pushed on to finish that bout in fifth but was forced out of the final moto of the weekend on Sunday afternoon.

“Round four was definitely up and down,” said Webster. “I felt great on the bike and I went P1 in superpole but in the first moto on Sunday I copped a big rock to my arm early in the race and it left a decent hole there.

“I finished the race in fifth but unfortunately wasn’t allowed to line up for the last one. I’m heading in for a small surgery tomorrow to get it cleaned and fixed up. Hopefully, it won’t require too much time off the bike. Massive thanks to my team and everyone who makes it possible, it’s been a bloody rough year so far, to say the least.”

Despite topping qualifying at Albury and the shootout at Maitland, 2023 Penrite ProMX has indeed been a tough campaign so far Webster. An eventful outing marked a troubled Appin round for the number 96, and he crashed out of the lead in moto one at Wodonga before salvaging fifth in race two.

Four rounds of the national MX1 season remain for Webster to rebound, with Gillman, South Australia, marking the next stop on this year’s Penrite ProMX on 28 May.
