WBR Yamaha has confirmed that Connor Tierney will return to the squad for the 2022 Australian Supercross Championship (AUSX), partnering with Jy Roberts in SX2.

Tierney has previous SX experience with WBR and enjoyed success indoors in 2019 onboard a YZ250F, winning a main at Wollongong with BBR Motorsports. He was later granted an opportunity with Serco Yamaha in Auckland and Melbourne that season.

The 24-year-old has competed on a 450 in recent years, however, his 2022 Penrite ProMX campaign was brought to an end before it began with a broken collarbone prior to round one. Healed and focused on SX, Tierney is currently in the US preparing for the Australian series.

“We’ve worked with Connor before and for us, he was a good fit,” said WBR Yamaha’s Travis Whitten. “With Ryder [Kingsford] being injured and Levi Rogers not wanting to do supercross, it left us figuring out what we were going to do for supercross.

“We’re pumped with the two guys that we are able to put on track, especially having experience with Connor and we feel he is really good at supercross.

“He had good results with us back in 2017 and really good back in 2019 on a Yamaha, and with him putting in a lot of effort and going over to the US, I feel like he would be at his best and hopefully he can put some good results in.”

The 2022 Australian Supercross Championship commences alongside the FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX), set to feature on Friday 21 October at Marvel Stadium, Melbourne.
