KTM Racing Team’s former national champion, Kirk Gibbs was the only racer to drop under the 1m 45s qualifying laptimes, when he logged a searing time during the Thor MX1 Top 10 Shootout, at the fifth round of the 2022 Penrite ProMX Championship at Maitland, NSW.

Gibbs and BBR 102 Motorsports Yamaha’s Matt Moss traded fastest times during the session, with Gibbs ultimately gaining the upper hand over his long-time racing rival with a 1m44.899s lap.

Moss’s 1m 45.543s lap was 0.44 seconds faster than current red plate holder, Aaron Tanti (CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team), who finished the session in third.

Honda Racing’s Dean Ferris and GasGas Racing Team’s Hayden Mellross completed the top five positions.

Todd Waters (Husqvarna Racing Team) could only muster a sixth-fastest time, ahead of Brett Metcalfe (GO24 Racing), Privateers Dylan Wood (KTM), Joel Wightman (Yamaha) and Joben Baldwin (Honda) rounded out the top 10.
