Italy has claimed the 2021 ISDE World Trophy in convincing fashion, as Josep Garcia won the overall in the 95th edition of the coveted six-day event.

Consisting of Andrea Verona, Davide Guarneri, Thomas Oldrati and Matteo Cavallo, the Italian team ultimately finished 4m31s ahead of Spain in second place while the USA completed the rostrum in third.

Finishing shy of the podium was Sweden in fourth, with a comfortable buffer over fifth-place Portugal.

Looking at the overall classification, Garcia made his mark for Spain finishing nearly two minutes ahead of Verona in second, and 3m30.60s ahead of Mikeal Persson (Sweden) who was third.

While Jaume Betriu also finished strongly for Spain in P7, the home Italian team proved just too strong and consistent with all four riders in the top 10.

Making it a double delight for local Italian fans, Italy also dominated the Junior World Trophy category winning by 8m31s over second-placed France, with Sweden in third.

In the Women’s Trophy, Team USA was victorious by over 15 minutes ahead of Great Britain in second, with Spain completing the rostrum.

Australia did not compete in the event this year, however, have experienced previous success in 2019 lifting the ISDE Junior World Trophy, and Daniel Sanders taking out the overall classification that year.
