A new AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship winner has emerged in Thomas Wood at the famed Loretta Lynn’s Ranch, victorious in the high-profile Mini Sr 2 class.

Wood won the category in convincing fashion, scoring 1-2-1 results onboard his KTM 85 SX, while also finishing the event fifth overall in the Mini Sr 1 class courtesy of a 9-1-4 scorecard.

There was also a host of other Australians competing at Loretta Lynn’s last week, with fellow Georgia-based countryman Noah Smerdon finishing P4 overall in the 125cc (12-17) B/C class with 4-6-7 finishes.

Smerdon also lined up in the Schoolboy 1 (12-17) B/C category, where a DNF in the second moto limited his overall result to 20th after an eighth in the first moto and a 10th in moto three.

Kawasaki-mounted Brad West and Yamaha rider Myles Gilmore competed in the 250 B class, where West recovered 22nd in the opening moto following a first-turn fall to finish 9-8 in the second and third motos, placing him 11th overall. Gilmore ended 32nd overall with 17-32 and a DNF in the last outing.

Both racers also competed in the Schoolboy 2 (12-17) B/C category, with West scoring a top 10 overall in eighth, courtesy of 12-7-6 finishes, while Gilmore recovered from a DNF in the opening moto to go 10-10 in motos two and three for 18th overall.

Honda-equipped Lewis Callow competed in both the 250 B Limited and 450 B categories, as his 7-14-22 results saw him finish 14th overall in 450 B, while 29-21-26 results left him 27th in 250 B Limited.
