Team Honda HRC contender Jett Lawrence has indicated he will revert to settings used earlier in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross season in an attempt to regain control of the 250MX red plate.

The Australian experienced difficulties at Spring Creek, with expectations high after a strong qualifying, but then admittedly riding to an underwhelming result of fourth overall, losing his points-lead in the process.

“Millville was not the best round,” Lawrence explained. “I came in feeling really, really good, really excited for this round. First qualifying went well, I was second and battling for first.

“Going into the first moto, I felt confident, but messed up my start really bad. I was focused on really wanting to get a good start and just focused too much on that one thing and then ended up messing it up, so I screwed myself there. I came all the way back to fourth, was really hoping I’d get a better start in the second one and I did.”

Lawrence put on a gutsy display in moto two, with an unfortunate collision with GasGas rider Pierce Brown slowing the 17-year-old Honda rider’s charge, but he was still able to recover to sixth.

“I was making my way through and then got into some carnage and I ended up running into Brown,” he added. “I didn’t see him until the last minute and was like ‘oh gosh,’ so I hit him.

“I feel bad for full-on hitting him, so hopefully, he’s not too hurt or can at least race next weekend. That set me back to 12th, but I made my way through. I kept on charging and made my way through to sixth.”

Spring Creek marks the second consecutive weekend Lawrence has been off the 250MX overall podium, however he’s determined to change that at Washougal, suggesting he will revert back to a set-up that worked well in previous rounds.

“It wasn’t the best weekend, but we’re going to go into Washougal with an open mind,” Lawrence continued. “We’re going to go back to some other settings that were better and really come out swinging – hopefully start getting on top of the box again to make sure the points leader doesn’t get too comfortable with the red plate.”

Lawrence now trails points leader Justin Cooper (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) by just six points, heading into round seven on 25 July at Washougal.
