Australian Jed Beaton feels he missed a podium opportunity at Maggiora’s third round of the 2021 MXGP World Championship after putting together two strong starts across the pair of motos.

The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing rider looked to have a promising weekend, starting the first MX2 moto inside the top five before crossing the line in fifth.

He was once again in the top five fight during moto two, although an attempted pass saw him take a bad line, pushing him to seventh where he’d eventually finish for seventh overall.

“Finally I had two good starts but I let myself down a little with the end results,” Beaton reflected. “The results were pretty decent but having started near the front it would have been nice to have perhaps been on the podium today.

“The second race was a bit more frustrating as while I was setting up a pass, I then got passed as the line I took was no good. Overall I’m happy. A step in the right direction for sure.”

Beaton is ranked 10th in the championship standings – equal on points for ninth – as the series heads to The Netherlands on 18 July for round four of the world championship.
