Victorian privateer Jai Constantinou has indicated he’ll be ‘touch and go’ for Gillman’s upcoming round of the 2021 Penrite ProMX Championship as he continues to recover from a wrist injury.

The Husqvarna rider sustained the injury during moto one of Wonthaggi’s season-opener, and despite pressing on throughout the day to record an impressive sixth overall, he was later diagnosed with a fractured wrist that would ultimately require surgery and sideline him for Canberra’s second round.

“It’s coming along better than we were expecting, so it’s all been going well and I’ve been able to keep up my off the bike training,” Constantinou explained to MotoOnline.com.au. “I had to get it operated on, so it’s touch and go if I’ll make round three or not. I’m aiming to be on the bike in the week leading up to Gillman, but if not, definitely round four.

“I’m not doing any riding yet – I’ve just got to keep doing my off the bike training and physio with Jon Park. Hopefully I can get it stronger and get a bit more movement in it to be back on the bike in the week leading up to Gillman.”

Constantinou’s 7-5 scorecard at Wonthaggi rates amongst his strongest performances in the MX2 category, the number 44 receiving a boost of confidence to put his speed on display while being hindered by the wrist injury.

“It was definitely a massive confidence booster to put my speed together on the weekend, but it was just a shame I couldn’t show my fitness as I was quite sore. I was still happy to get through the races and get a not too bad result.”

Gillman’s third round of the ProMX series is scheduled for 30 May in South Australia.
