The inaugural 2021 ProMX Australian Motocross Championship calendar has been uncovered by Motorcycling Australia (MA), set to span eight rounds across seven locations.

Round one to open the new-look series under MA management has been confirmed for Wonthaggi, VIC, on 11 April, followed by Canberra, ACT, on 2 May.

Gillman in South Australia will host round three on 30 May, with Maitland, NSW, next on 27 June to complete the first half of the season, followed by Wodonga, VIC, on 25 July.

Consecutive weekends will conclude the championship in Queensland at a venue to be confirmed on 9 August, before the traditional Coolum finals will take place on the Sunshine Coast as a double-header between 14-15 August.

“Having taken over the running of the championship only a few months ago and, after significant work by the ProMX Management Team, we are very excited to release the 2021 ProMX championship calendar in what we believe will be a fantastic year for motocross in Australia,” said MA CEO Peter Doyle.

“There was significant interest from over 30 clubs to host the 2021 ProMX championship rounds and we thank them for their overwhelming support.

“Like the ProMX teams and fans, we can’t wait to get back and get the season under way to see the fierce action on track. Our goal for 2021 is to build a strong foundation in our first year of ProMX with long term plans to broaden the championship and its audience.”

Queensland Moto Park (QMP) has constantly been linked to the penultimate round, as have Gympie and Mackay in recent weeks, however, no formal indication has been given at this point.

The Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) calendar also curiously has a TBA date in Queensland during that same week on the Friday and Saturday, potentially setting up a multi-discipline type of event into the nationals on Sunday.

It also remains unclear whether or not the newly-introduced MX3 category that is replacing the former MXD division will feature at all rounds or what the extent of inclusion of the support categories including the Womens and Veterans will be from next year.
