A minor concussion sustained in Sunday’s first of three MXGP rounds at Mantova will force Arnaud Tonus out of the Wednesday and Sunday races, Monster Energy Yamaha has confirmed.

After going down in the opening moto of the weekend, Tonus sat out the second moto as a precaution and he has since returned home to Switzerland to ensure a full recovery.

“It’s a shame I can’t race,” Tonus said. “The plan is to have three days really easy to let the brain recover as much as possible and, by the end of the week, I will start some brain training to reactivate the system. Normally I should be able to ride in 10 days it will all depend on the symptoms and how I recover.”

Over the next week, the health of Tonus will be monitored and his return to racing will be decided only after consultation. Following the Citta di Mantova and Europe rounds, the next event will be on 11 October with the MXGP of Spain. He is currently 19th in the standings.
