Countdown: Wollongong AUS Supercross attractions

Six attractions at round three of the 2019 Australian Supercross Championship.

The 2019 Australian Supercross Championship heads to Wollongong in New South Wales this weekend for round three of the series, and it’s primed to deliver on a number of fronts. In this instalment of Countdown, we highlight six attractions at this Saturday’s supercross!

6. Australian Motorcycle Festival:
Wollongong’s third round is set to run alongside the inaugural Australian Motorcycles Festival, which will take place at Lang Park this Saturday and Sunday. The festival is set to serve up the latest bikes, products and services from over 100 brands, while there’s an array of entertainment on offer. It’s a great reason to head down early to the supercross, or even make a weekend of it!

5. Legends parade:
A tribute to the stars of yesteryear, Wollongong will host a legends parade during the night show. The parade will be headlined by Illawarra local and three-time Mr Motocrosss Anthony Gunter, eight-time Australian champion Jay Marmont and four-time Australian champion Ryan Marmont. The trio will be accompanied by motocross and supercross royalty Craig Dack, Stephen Gall and one of Australia’s most recent champions, Dean Ferris, making it five decades worth of title winners.

4. Maddison’s trifecta of stunts:
FMX and stunt legend Robbie Maddison is set to perform a trio of stunts across the supercross night show and Australian Motorcycle Festival, with all to be revealed this weekend. We’ve all seen what Maddo can do, and it’s a reason in itself to attend WIN Stadium alongside the supercross action.

3. Full-size supercross circuit:
Not only will a full-size supercross circuit benefit riders, but it will also make for incredible racing for the fans. The track is slated to exit WIN Stadium and make its way onto the iconic viewing hill, which is a unique concept that we can’t wait to see. As for the layout, we’re going to have to wait until Saturday to see what obstacles the riders will be tackling.

2. Australian Speed and Style Championship:
Speed and Style is back, and it’s now an official Australian championship! Popular American Justin Hill, who’ll pilot a CDR Yamaha Monster Energy YZ45OF in the SX1 category, is in line to also contest the unique category, as is FMX star Cameron Sinclair and Maddison. When supercross and FMX come together, you can expect to be on the edge of your seat!

1. Triple crown format:
Of course, the number one attraction of Wollongong’s supercross will be the triple crown format, which will offer up a staggering six main events between the SX1 and SX2 categories. The short nature of each main will deliver intense and aggressive racing on every occasion, making for an absolute spectacle.
