Herlings concludes MXGP series with victory at Shanghai

Australian Evans finishes 11th in the MX2 World Championship rankings.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings has concluded the 2019 MXGP World Championship by taking out victory at Shanghai’s season-finale on the weekend in China.

The 2018 world champion was awarded the overall win on count-back after equalling on points with Standing Construct KTM’s Glenn Coldenhoff, the pair securing 2-1 and 1-2 scorecards respectively.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Seewer was third overall, granting him second in the championship standings, as recently-crowned champion Tim Gajser (Honda HRC) was fourth ahead of Jeremy van Horebeek (Honda).

Current MX2 world champion Jorge Prado (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) continued his dominance at the final round with a 1-1- results sheet, while it was Tom Vialle (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Calvin Vlaanderen (Honda HRC) who completed the podium.

Jago Geerts (Monster ENergy Kemea Yamaha) and Thomas Kjer Olsen (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing) were fourth and fifth respectively, as Australian Mitch Evans (Team Honda 114 Motorsports) was 18th overall for 11th in the championship standings.

A selection of riders will now represent their country at the 2019 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations (MXoN) at Assen in the Netherlands on 28-29 September.
