Australian Mitch Evans has revealed he’ll sit out this weekend’s MXGP of Asia at Semarang in an effort to recover from a number of heavy crashes in recent rounds.

The Team Honda 114 Motorsports rider suffered an injury scare in Latvia when he crashed heavily last month, although he returned to action at the weekend for the MXGP of Indonesia.

Charging to second in the qualification race at Palembang on Saturday, the Queenslander suffered another fall in moto one, ruling him out of the race and the final encounter.

“The last three rounds have been tough on the body,” said Evans. “Four big crashes have left me pretty beat up! Bummed I won’t be lining up this weekend in Semarang but my body needs sometime to heal – planning on lining up in Loket.”

Evans is currently ranked seventh in the MX2 World Championship standings, while is hopeful return at Loket is scheduled for 28 July.
