Dunlop takes control in Broadford

Ficeda Accessories press release:

It was a weekend of three from five for Dunlop at the third round of the MX Nationals in Broadford, Victoria, with racers taking three of the top five positions overall and in the championship of both the MX1 and MX2 classes.

CDR Yamaha Monster Energy’s Kirk Gibbs broke through for his first overall MX1 win of the championship, while Yamalube Yamaha’s Jay Wilson continues to accrue all-important championship points to sit second overall in MX2.

The first round of the championship without rain saw racers choose the Dunlop Geomax MX33 front and rear tread pattern to make the most of the technical Broadford circuit, with the combination proving successful for both CDR Yamaha Monster Energy riders, with Luke Clout securing third overall to make it a 1-3 result in the MX1 class. Privateer Husqvarna racer Jesse Dobson once again brought home fifth in the premier class.

The MX2 class saw a solid performance from Serco Yamaha’s Aaron Tanti (4-4) and Nathan Crawford (3-7), racing home in fourth and fifth respectively, while it was Yamalube Yamaha’s Jay Wilson who took the final overall podium position.

“Today was the best I have felt on the bike in motocross so far this year. The first race, I was covered in mud, and just did what I had to do to get back to fifth as the first four were long gone, but in the second moto I really began to gel with the bike and attack the track. I felt awesome and just wished it was the 30-minute race and not the 20.”

Dunlop Motorsport Manager Robbie Bugden: “It was great to get some good racing conditions to really see who rises to the top, and, not unexpectedly, we saw Kirk Gibbs finally get an overall this weekend. Kirk races for championships and you’ll always find him banking solid points, even when things go against him on race day. He’ll be one to watch come the final round. I’m also really impressed with Jesse Dobson, racing against factory teams with only one bike. Coming in fifth overall and fifth in the championship is an amazing result. It was also great to see Chucky (Daniel) Sanders from the Husqvarna Enduro team come in and take third in the first MX1 moto and sixth in the final moto. If not for a broken handlebar in the second race, I’m sure he would’ve been a chance for an overall podium this weekend! We saw a lot of racers choose the Geomax MX33 this weekend. It continues to prove itself as the best performance MX tyre on the market, able to perform in a wide range of conditions to the highest level.”
