Following a demanding start to his 2018 Australian Supercross Championship campaign, Hayden Mellross broke through for victory at Port Adelaide’s penultimate round in what he says is his sweetest triumph yet.

The SX2 title contender suffered two broken toes in the lead up to the opening round that later required surgery, somewhat hindering his performance as he endeavoured to remain in championship contention while managing the injury.

The DPH Motorsport Husqvarna rider displayed the form we’re most familiar with on Saturday night, charging to two commanding main event wins, backed up with a second in the final outing to secure the overall victory.

“What an incredible and near perfect day,” Mellross stated. “We finally got the overall round win and I couldn’t be any happier. To overcome the setbacks and challenges I have been faced with this season, felt amazing.

“This truly has been the sweetest and most rewarding win yet. The whole team and I have been working so hard to achieve this result and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of such an amazing team.”

The win has promoted Mellross to second in the championship standings and positions him just 11 points behind leader Jay Wilson (Yamalube Yamaha Racing) with only the Monster Energy AUS-X Open Sydney remaining in the five-stop series.
