Retired multi-time Monster Energy AMA Supercross and Lucas Oil Pro Motocross champion Ryan Dungey made a welcomed one-off return to racing at the weekend’s Red Bull Straight Rhythm event, landing on the podium in second alongside eventual victor Shane McElrath (Troy Lee Designs Red Bull KTM).

Dungey piloted a Red Bull KTM Factory Racing-prepared 250 SX in the two-stroke only event, successfully making his way into the final against McElrath that saw the win come down to the final run of the evening as both previously earning a race win each.

“That was fun,” Dungey expressed. “I was a little nervous coming into today – I mean, you’re going fast and you’re pushing it, but the bike worked awesome. I had a good time, got off some good starts and I was pumped to get to where we did. I wanted the win for sure, but second is good too.”

The number five went up against longtime rival Ryan Villopoto (Monster Energy Yamaha) for a spot in the final round, reigniting the old rivalry that spanned for the duration of both of their professional careers.
