McElrath edges Dungey for Red Bull Straight Rhythm crown

Retired Villopoto completes podium in special two-stroke only event.

Troy Lee Designs Red Bull KTM’s Shane McElrath has clinched victory at the 2018 Red Bull Straight Rhythm in California, USA, edging out former multi-time supercross and motocross champion Ryan Dungey (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) for the top spot.

The all two-stroke event saw a number of current and former pro riders enter the unique race, but in the final it came down to 250SX contender McElrath and retired Dungey.

McElrath stole narrowly took the win in the first of three runs, however Dungey returned with victory in race two to ensure to overall win came down to the wire. In an all-out duel, McElrath pushed through to beat the famous number five to be declared victor of the 2018 edition.

The fight for third was a heated battle between retired champion Ryan Villopoto (Monster Energy Yamaha) and Jordon Smith (Troy Lee Designs Red Bull KTM), but Villopoto proved to be too good as he rounded out the podium with a 1-2-1 scorecard over Smith’s 2-1-1 results.

The 150cc category was taken out by Carson Brown (Husqvarna) who battled AJ Catanzaro (Kawasaki) in the final, as Luke Renzland (Yamaha) was credited third.
