Two-time defending Australian supercross champion and current SX1 points leader Justin Brayton believes Geelong’s large and spacious GMHBA Stadium that will host this Saturday’s third round will serve as a significant benefit to fans, riders and the industry.

The Penrite Honda Racing ace, who’s captured two main victories in the Australian Supercross Championship from two rounds so far, is overwhelmed with excitement to be involved in the progress of the sport domestically, as it heads to the home ground of AFL team Geelong Cats.

Not only is Saturday’s show a first for AUS Supercross in recent years to be hosted inside an Australian football-sized venue, it will also see the introduction of the Triple Crown format, which adds another element of excitement, according to number one plate holder Brayton.

“I think it’s awesome, and I think it’s awesome for several reasons,” Brayton told MotoOnline.com.au. “Firstly, for the fans to have a bigger venue with more seating, and from a racing perspective, the track will be bigger and spread the guys out for some good racing.

“To have the sport in Australia growing and to be in a stadium that big is awesome for everyone – the teams, sponsors, riders and fans. I’m excited to be part of it. The Triple Crown is going to be awesome. As rider, it’s more difficult – the stress level is higher, you have to execute the start and the race really well.

“I like the pressure to have to get a good start or make passes on the first lap. It’s so much better for the fans – every time we line up, it means something, where as in a normal format, the heat races don’t really mean that much. The Triple Crown is great, I’ve done it a few times in the USA and had a lot of success, so I’m hoping to bring that here and continue the success.”

Troy Bayliss Events – the promoter of Geelong’s third round – recently announced a selection of off-track entertainment that will take place on Saturday evening, including celebrity trophy karts, two-wheel stunts and more.

Round three of the Australian Supercross Championship is at GMHBA Stadium on 13 October, proudly presented by Yamaha Motor Australia. Tickets are available via www.ticketmaster.com.au.
