Aaron Tanti displayed his supercross potential on Saturday evening as he rebounded for runner-up honours in the SX2 main event at Coolum’s second round of the Australian Supercross Championship in Queensland.

Tanti endured a horror opening round at Jimboomba that was marred by a number of crashes, although he pieced together an incredible night of racing over the weekend, scoring a heat race win before winding up on the podium.

The talented Complete Parts Kawasaki Racing rider initially challenged early leader Hayden Mellross (DPH Motorsport Husqvarna), overcoming the number 45 to control the field into the dying stages, where an error forced him to relinquish P1 to red-plate holder Jay Wilson (Yamalube Yamaha Racing).

“I bounced back from the last round where I had a few unfortunate events unfold,” Tanti commented. “Heading into this weekend I felt really strong – I won my heat race straight up and started well in the main.

“I battled up front and pushed really hard to be there. I missed a rhythm in the closing stages and [Jay] Wilson got by me. I was disappointed about that, but I’m happy to be on the podium.”

The New South Welshman’s performance indicates a return to form, which comes just in time for back to back rounds in the championship, the next scheduled for this weekend at Geelong in Victoria.
