Tomac strengthens title chances with Budds Creek victory

Plessinger wraps up career-first 250MX title with a round to spare.

Defending champion Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Kawasaki) has strengthened his points lead after levelling on points with Ken Roczen (Honda HRC) at Budds Creek’s penultimate round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.

Roczen claimed a thrilling moto victory in the opening affair, however Tomac returned serve in the second outing to claim the top spot after the duo both lodged 3-1 race results.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Marvin Musquin wound up in third, losing three critical points in the championship to Tomac in the process, while the top five was rounded out by Blake Baggett (Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM) and Justin Barcia (Monster Energy Yamaha).

In the 250MX category, Aaron Plessinger (Monster Energy Yamalube Star Racing Yamaha) was crowned champion with a round to spare, while RJ Hampshire (Geico Honda) broke through for victory, edging out his teammate Chase Sexton (Geico Honda) with a 2-1 scorecard.

Champion Plessinger completed the top three on the day, as Mitchell Harrison (Monster Energy Yamalube Star Racing Yamaha) and Austin Forkner (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki) went fourth and fifth respectively. Australian Hayden Mellross (CyleTrader Rock River Yamaha) was 16th overall.

The Pro Motocross championship will head to Ironman next weekend for 12th and final round of the series.
