Todd makes it a Dunlop double

Ficeda Accessories press release:

The MX Nationals are over, with the final of the ten-round championship held in Coolum, on the Queensland Sunshine Coast, over the weekend. Serco Yamaha’s Wilson Todd sealed the MX2 (250cc) Championship, giving Dunlop the Championship double after Dean Ferris won his third consecutive MX1 Championship last weekend.

While Wilson Todd raced for the championship, finishing with a 4-6 scorecard to ensure he wrapped up the 2018 MX2 title, it was Yamalube Yamaha’s Jay Wilson battling for the overall win in Coolum. A 1-2 result saw the crowd favourite take second overall on count back and ultimately round out the season fourth in the championship.

Dunlop Motorsport Manager Robbie Bugden: “Coolum is a tough track for these guys to race, with the sandy circuit constantly changing, not just with every race, but every lap, but it is a surface perfectly matched for the Geomax MX12. Congratulations to Wilson Todd and Serco Yamaha on a well-deserved MX2 title and to Yamaha for taking clean-sweep MX1, MX2 and MXD titles. For Dunlop, we’ve taken not only the championship wins but three of the top five places in both the MX1 and MX2 classes! Thank you to all the teams and riders for choosing Dunlop. We’re proud that the Geomax range of tyres proved once again to be the choice of champions.”

Newly crowned MX1 Champion Dean Ferris hit the circuit with a point to prove. After confirming he would be a free agent next year, with sights firmly set on the US, the 28-year-old was out to prove that he was not only the fittest, but also the fastest on track – and that he did. A 1-1 result gives Ferris a perfect 10 from 10 season-overall wins, while sixth for KTM’s Luke Clout was enough for third overall for

the series. One of the standout performances of the weekend came from DPH Husqvarna newcomer Callum Norton with a 5-5 result for fourth overall in only his second appearance for the team – on his 18th birthday!

With the MX Nationals Champions crowned, our attention turns to supercross with the first round of the revamped series set for September 15 in Jimboomba Queensland.
