Monster Energy Kawasaki Factory Racing’s Eli Tomac has regained the points lead at Millville’s eighth round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, charging to convincing 1-1 scorecard.

Eventual round runner-up Ken Roczen (Honda HRC) led majority of the opening premier class moto until he was hunted down by Tomac in the dying stages, relinquishing the lead as the duo came into lapped traffic. Roczen was third in the final outing behind Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Marvin Musquin, who was third for the round.

The top five was rounded out by Blake Baggett (Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM) and Justin Barcia (Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing), as Tomac now leads the series by seven markers over Musquin.

In the 250MX category, Aaron Plessinger (Monster Energy Yamalube Star Racing Yamaha) blitzed the field with a perfect 1-1 scorecard, extending his points advantage to 49.

Teammate Justin Cooper was second with a 4-3 scorecard, while Alex Martin (TLD Red Bull KTM) rounded out the podium in third. Fourth was credited to Jordon Smith (TLD Red Bull KTM) followed by Joey Savatgy (Pro Circuit Monster Energy Kawasaki). Australian Hayden Mellross (CycleTrader Rock River Yamaha) was 18th overall with 33-15 results.

The next round of the Pro Motocross championship is scheduled for 28 July at Washougal.
