Dunlop dominates in Conondale

Dunlop Tyres Australia press release:

It was yet another dominating round for Dunlop racers at the sixth instalment of the MX Nationals, with Dean Ferris (CDR Yamaha) taking both MX1 (450cc) race wins while Wilson Todd (Serco Yamaha) took out both MX2 (250cc) races on the same Conondale circuit in Green Park, Queensland, over the weekend.

Dunlop Brand Manager, Darren Jones: “It was a huge weekend of racing for Dunlop with the ASBK (Australian Superbike Championship) at Hidden Valley and the MX Nationals in Conondale. It really was another stellar weekend for us though, with pole and both race wins in both MX1 and MX2 classes, along with the top four positions in the premier class overall! Congratulations to all the teams and racers, although a special mention has to go Robbie Marshall. The full-time Showtime FMX rider pulled out all the stops for ninth overall in MX1; no easy feat for a part-timer!”

In the premier MX1 class, Ferris didn’t have it all his own way, with KTM’s Kirk Gibbs taking out superpole with a time of 2:10.037. Ferris worked his way to the lead by lap 3 in the first of the two races, and kept that lead till the chequered flag. Husqvarna’s Kade Mosig raced to the lead in the second moto, until Ferris eventually made the pass by lap 5 to go on to take his second win of the day and the overall for the weekend, ahead of Brett Metcalfe, Kade Mosig and Luke Clout.

In the MX2 class, it was an impressive display from Queenslander Wilson Todd. Qualifying by over a second ahead of the field with 2:12.175, he went on to take race 1 by a considerable 14 seconds, after an early challenge from Aaron Tanti. The second race saw Todd in the lead by lap 2 and he never looked back, this time crossing the line nine seconds ahead of the field.

Wilson Todd: “The track was tough today as reading the dirt was difficult and finding consistent traction was hard. It looks loamy and really tacky, but a lot of the time it was hardpack and slippery, so the right tyre choice was important – and my Dunlops worked great.”

The MX Nationals heads to Raymond Terrace, NSW, for the season’s second double-header round on July 14-15 where the best motocross racers in Australia will line up on both Saturday and Sunday.
